Kate Hudson: Yeah we went back to Summer, I actually came back to New York because I live half the time in New York and I was like GIVE ME SOME…like I want a scarf (laughter) I like wanted to cover my body, I wanted to be where it's cold. But yeah, I’m like Mathew I get tan. Chris used to say that I’d sit and he’d watch me get tan over lunch (laughing) like I could just sit there, cause I’m Italian you know so I have that, all of this… I could put on 40 sun block, we’d be loaded with sunblock and just getting just…
Q: Torched?
Kate Hudson: Oh yea! It was crazy and at last we’re cold here.
Q: So how hard was all the under water stuff for you guys to do some of it looked a little scary…
Kate Hudson: We had to know our emergency procedures, our last month of shooting in the tank was our emergency procedures, but they became so second nature your doing them so much it becomes easy. The only thing is it's like when you're underwater you really have to be sharp like there’s no laziness when your working in the water.
Matthew McConaughey: You don’t want to fool around, behind the camera down there, it’s almost as large as the crew as you had on land 'cause the safety person she has her girl who’s a great diver, who’s someone behind the camera, who has an extra tank just in case something comes up and I’ve got my guy and everyone has their own person and then you get in an action sequence and the bubbles are going up all around you and you can’t see and you don’t have your air, and you don’t know if your up or down, but you learn to hold your breath a little longer then you probably thought you could.
Kate Hudson: I got 45 seconds which is pretty good, but I had to do the whole blow hole sequence and then the thing is that they cut it and it looks like we were doing it all in one, but you know, we were doing all that stuff in one take where I had to wrap myself around the cannon and hold myself to the cannon and the bubbles would come and they actually have this mechanism in the water that would…that created the wave, that was actually the scariest part 'cause I could not see. I couldn’t see anything and I was holding on, so I was a little nervous…you just had to trust that the people that were there could see you waving, really fun though, a lot of buddy breathing…share the air
Matthew McConaughey: Share the air, that also helps comfort in that you know if you're having trouble, someone’s got it, there’s a hand signal.
Kate Hudson: (to Matthew) Do you remember my hand signal when I was getting certified? (laughing) I was so scared, I was in the ocean…because I was getting certified and right behind me was a manatee and they’re like the size…two sizes of the table…
Matthew McConaughey: It's like a sea cow…
Kate Hudson: …and I saw it and I freaked out, I was about to do my mask flood…take my mask off and you know I’m in the ocean and there’s like this…this, I didn’t know really what it was, it was murky and it just looked like a whale (laughter) and then even when I told my dive instructor Michelle, she was like... calm down. And then she turned around and was kind of like whoa, and then we went up and, I think the exact words out of my mouth were, “what the fuck was that?”(Everyone laughs) and then of course everybody was excited to see…
Matthew McConaughey: You know you don’t see those very often.
Q: Kate, at the rate of embarrassing your co-star, what kind of a daddy do you think he’s going to make?
Kate Hudson: Oh, there’s nothing embarrassing about that, I think he will be an incredible dad. There’s something that people, I think that like everything, you know, because people see Matthew out always doing something whether it be out dancing in a bar, or beaching around or taking a hike with some crazy bandana on (laughter) I think that like anything they take, people take their image and what they want somebody else to be, then that just…people just run with it and when you really know the person, and when you really love a person you recognize that that person is like nothing that people really want them to be, you know what I mean? It’s not real, it’s just not, and Matthew happens to be one the most loving and loyal and people I know and his family is important to him and one thing that I think we connect on is he’s great with kids.
