Iron Man

So many people wanted to castrate Michael Bay for turning Transformers into a big commercial for General Motors, while other understood that sometimes in order to make the film you want, you have to sell out just a little bit. That is the way of the world, kids. In Hollywood, marketability and profit are still everything. The real question is, are you (the die hard fan) able to get over that fact and understand that your favorite characters might never have hit the big screen without a little promotional bump from a third-party? Hopefully you can, as Marvel’s upcoming film Iron Man seems to be another in the long line of car commercials turned action movies.

As you can see from the poster below, Audi is getting some prime advertising real estate.

Now, while I am not opposed to a studio (in this case Paramount and Marvel) getting funds from a car company so that Tony Stark can rock a slick ride, I am opposed to silly movie posters. I don’t know what kind of marketing works overseas (you may have noticed that this poster is in Italian), but this is a little too much. If you are going to make a poster that is trying to sell a car with a superhero, at least make it look cool. This poster is obviously a previous production still of Iron Man set behind a picture of the Audi and a photoshopped fireball. I know a bunch of middle school students who could probably make a poster that is cooler than this one.

But I digress, even some lame marketing can’t stop Jon Favreau’s film from rocking — and it will rock, mind you.
