Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe
With several Marilyn Monroe biopics or remakes in the works, we've compiled a definitive list of the top five women that could bring Monroe back to life. Monroe has been one of the most tragic figures in American history, capturing the public eye as a singular beauty, forever cementing the idea that gentlemen prefer blondes. Eventually ending her own life at a fairly young age, Monroe stands as a strange sort of American ideal. A truly excellent film of her life is long overdue.

Scarlett JohanssonThe Shoo-In: Scarlett Johansson
Often considered one of the sexiest women in Hollywood, Johansson seems an obvious choice for the role of Monroe. Johansson has the looks, but does she have the attitude? Monroe embodied a strange mixture of tragic beauty and coy personality. Johansson comes across as shy, unsure of herself even in such recent films as The Island or Match Point. While Johansson can deliver the goods visually, does she have the ability to break out of her typically more sedate demeanor and get in touch with the darker side of herself?

Christina Aguilera The Look-Alike: Christina Aguilera
She was initially interested in playing the role, and there's no doubt she would have done exceptionally well. She has the pin-up style body and the looks, but her acting abilities are as of yet untried. It's possible that Aguilera could be the breath of fresh air needed to reinvigorate our idea of what it is to play Monroe. Unfortunately for the filmgoers of America, Aguilera's recently announced pregnancy will likely take her out of the running for any soon to be released Monroe films.

Kate Bosworth The Next Best Thing: Kate Bosworth
She's the best bet to capture that frail side of Monroe. Facially, she may even look the most like Monroe, with her large expressive eyes and beautiful mouth. She may have to put on a few pounds to play the svelte bombshell, as her typically tiny frame does not look much like Monroe's pin-up perfect body. But if Bosworth adds a few pounds, and nails the breathy expressive voice then there will be Monroe magic waiting to happen.

Charlize Theron The Possibility: Charlize Theron
The girl can act, and we all know she's not afraid of looking messy, though she's one of the most beautiful actresses working today. Theron's commitment to her craft is legendary, and has garnered her an Oscar and many more accolades. Theron, as few other actresses do, possesses the charisma and ability as well as the looks. She would be another strong contender to play Monroe.

Nicole Kidman The Long Shot: Nicole Kidman
She really looks like the blond beauty, when properly made up (as seen here). Kidman is an excellent actress and is a personal favorite choice to portray the emotional and interesting side of Monroe. While there is always a beautiful face ready to portray the actress, there was something extraordinary about Marilyn that captured the mind of the American people. Kidman may be the only actress able to play Marilyn at all stages, the young beauty, the comedienne actress, and the deeply depressed young woman who took her own life in the end.

Editor's Note: On that happy thought, who do you think should play Marilyn? And what sort of weight gain program should we put Kate Bosworth on? I'm thinking vanilla milkshakes.
